15 Jahre Deutschrock und SKAndale – THE ALBUM is here !

Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear SKA lovers, dear SKA skeptics, dear world beneath the sky!!!

SKA is weird, isn’t it? Yup, that’s what it is and we’re definitely not the first ones to say that.

Weird and it takes time getting used to, and that’s not because the beat never starts on 1, which means that everything is off beat and more sinister lines may come across as something positive. And that’s confusing. This style also tends to become a pain in the ass pretty fast, which is also something that’s typical for this genre. SKA is different, no doubt about that. At least it’s anything else but easy to make an album that only contains tracks of one music genre only and then have a decent and impressive result.

This has also been one of the main reasons to try it out. That’s why we wrote these songs  and we’re…we’re just happy with the final result.

Let’s just say, everyone can do standard stuff, and everyone tries it, too. You shouldn’t avoid the safe bank, but you should at least leave it once in a while. So we got our asses up and started working on it at the beginning of the year. After our acoustic album “Still” we needed another memorial; our creative inner soldiers wanted to expand their role as “style pioneers” of German rock. We thought it was great how the wings of freedom guided us to new actions, musically.

Well, we predicted it, so we were also pretty excited about the new comments about our black-and-white piece with the laurel wreath.

We know that tastes differ and new style changes like this may definitely be a strain on Frei.Wild fans – just like “Still” used to be. But that’s how we like to keep things fresh and exciting, and we need it.

Well then, on Friday morning, July 29, 2016, “15 Jahre Deutschrock und SKAndale” started playing for the first time in CD players and stereos outside of the CD pressing plants. Turn the volume up, and legs are starting to dance in step, fingers are dancing on the tables, and lots of headbanging is going on. Only a few hours later we received A LOT of praise and compliments, but in between there was also a little admonition. Right now we’re certain about what we’d been thinking about all the time. We assumed right.

We called “15JDUS” a bold project, but a personal gift to us and to you; a token of gratefulness for the terrific time. It’s not supposed to be a typical Frei.Wild album, but those who heard us say that have already taken the album into their hearts, as usual.

Those who haven’t heard it were a little confused and surprised. But that’s what we wanted to achieve. Well then, now everybody knows.

Please don’t look for things on this anniversary album that we intentionally left out. Don’t look for regular German rock music; lay back, close your eyes, and let the SKA offbeat carry you and be fulfilled with happiness and a bunch of surprises that this special album is holding for you.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah!!!”…is not just the battle cry of a song and video. We’re just hoping you’re having a good time with these songs, with lots of confidence, and that you’re looking straight into summer and sunshine.

Your (very thankful) band!!!

Berlin: Thoughts from the heart !

Were the tears real when we were playing “Unendliches Leben?” Yes, they were, and there would’ve been many more if it weren’t for…never mind, you know what I mean. Men…too weak to adhere to their weaknesses. We were asked about our emotions after the Wuhlheide concert every time we met someone. What did it feel like to be up there? Have you realized at all what was going on? Isn’t this or wasn’t this incredible? Can we give you a hug? Thanks for the unforgettable concert. Those were the words – among others – that we had to deal with, along with incredible impressions that we have to digest. We’re totally looking forward to the future, we’re proud and endlessly grateful for the great time up to this point, which we’re trying to comprehend. Tears of joy whilst playing a bunch of songs, and thinking about this incredible milestone after 15 years together as a band.

Dear fans, everyone who was there, and those who sadly couldn’t come to Wuhlheide: These words come straight from the heart:

You, us, this entire family, all this friendship and team spirit; there are things that need to be treasured, and you are a part of it, to 100 percent!!!

Full of gratefulness and joy:

Philipp, Jonas, Föhre, and Zegga!

To the next 15 years!!!
